COMPUTER CURRICULUM
 

Kindergarten
Kindergarten students become familiar with the parts of the computer and the use of equipment such as the mouse and headphones. They use the computer lab weekly. They use basic drawing tools. They create a class project incorporating their pictures, voices, and drawings. Kindergartners use software and websites that teach basic pre-reading and reading skills.

First Grade
First grade students to explore the basic computer drawing tools. They review basic use of the keyboard and begin to save their projects independently. Through practice with curriculum oriented games and websites, they enhance their reading and math skills. They create and share books. First graders also occasionally use a website to enhance other curriculum areas such as science and social studies. First grade students use both the computer lab and the laptops.

Second Grade
Second graders type sentences and short stories and illustrate them. They may print their projects or share them on the computer, allowing them to use sounds and voices. They use the web and games to reinforce their learning. They take advantage of the many Kid Pix tools to create projects on a curriculum related or holiday theme. Second grade students use the laptops in their classroom.

Third Grade
The main focus of the computer program in third and fourth grades is developing formal keyboarding skills. Students use a sequenced program which lets them learn at their own pace. They learn to set up a basic word processing document and print it. They add drawing and clip art to their word processing documents Students also use the internet to reinforce curriculum areas or for holiday related projects. Third graders use both the computer lab and the laptop cart.

Fourth Grade
Fourth grade students continue to use a keyboarding program regularly. They develop their skills in word processing by using more of the progra�??s features. They access the Internet to enhance their learning, particularly in science.

Fifth Grade
Fifth grade students review keyboarding and continue to develop more sophistication in their word processing skills. They use a multimedia program to create a project that has several pages. They use the web to do searches and use appropriate websites to get information for class projects. Fifth graders create a simple spreadsheet project.

Sixth Grade
Sixth grade students continue to use keyboarding and word processing, The sixth grade classes use spreadsheets to organize information and create graphs. They use the web to do research and to enhance their learning in subject related areas. They create short movies in curriculum related areas.

Junior High
Junior high students use the laptops for various curriculum related projects as they are assigned by their teachers. They use the Internet for research and learning practice, such as vocabulary and math skills.
They use applications such as Power Point, Garage Band, and iMovie to integrate media into their classroom presentations.
